Spending time in his granddad’s garage as a little boy, Marc Knight knew early on that he would make a career out of working with his hands. Growing up, he was the one in class with the most elaborate science fair project. In college, Marc pursued a degree in construction, learning the ins and outs of architecture, engineering and building. As a professional, he has established a successful construction business as a general contractor making buildings come to life. But he hasn’t stopped there.
Marc’s love of maneuvering with his hands and his passion for industrial design led him to look at lighting differently. It all began with the pursuit to find unique, well made lighting reflecting his personal style while maintaining functionality. During a kitchen renovation, it became very apparent that lighting like he wanted did not exist. Well made and unique equaled a hefty price point. A lower price compromised quality and design. Marc decided to take it upon himself to design and craft lighting, and Machine Shop Lighting Co. was born.
Marc approaches his lights like he would a building. He begins with a sketch – an idea, a design, a plan on paper. The sketch leads to a model. And then the crafting begins. Steel is forged into a fixture; glass is carefully blown into a shade. From small tolerances in the fit, to the steel parts and how the lights are packaged – every detail is a reflection of functional, handmade craftsmanship.
Machine Shop Lighting Co. is committed to producing authentic, distinct functional lighting with handcrafted simplicity. Because the lighting is handmade, there is always opportunity for customization. Review our current inventory or contact us for more information.
